Colin O'Dell first started programming on an old Apple II-e at the age of 8. Within four years, he mastered several BASIC variants and sold his first commercial application. After tinkering with different languages and technologies for a few years, he focused on website/application development and co-founded a local web company at 15. He worked on projects that included sites for local businesses as well as personal/organizational finance management applications.
Colin is also actively involved in the PHP community. He maintains multiple open-source projects, including the PHP League's CommonMark project which has been installed over 235,000 times. He recently authored the PHP 7 Upgrade Guide e-book - the first full-length book released for the latest generation of the PHP programming language. Colin also speaks regularly on industry podcasts and at PHP conferences across the country and internationally, sharing his knowledge on topics like development, security, debugging, and more.
In addition to working on web sites and applications, Colin also enjoys developing mobile applications on the Android platform, where he's a published developer with over 250,000 app downloads.
