The Jewish Education Project aims to spark and spread innovations that expand the reach and increase the impact of Jewish education. The Jewish Education Project works with educators, clergy, principals, and volunteers to create outstanding Jewish experiences for 160,000 children, teens and families in 800 programs in Westchester, Long Island, and New York City.
To equip educators, build community, and promote Jewish education, The Jewish Education Project provides resources within multiple web properties, including jewishedproject.org, findyoursummer.org, and jewishfutures.org.
As a non-profit organization, most of The Jewish Education Project’s resources go to the staff that work directly on mission-related programs. Infrastructure was not prioritized as highly and fell behind. There had been neglect on several of their websites with no vendor being responsible for security updates or server monitoring. In addition, the sites were hosted in different locations while running on various platforms. As part of a comprehensive digital strategy initiative, The Jewish Education Project turned to the experts at Unleashed Technologies to organize, streamline, and maintain the setup for their various web properties.
The Jewish Education Project has six website properties across various CMSs (including Drupal 6, Drupal 7, and WordPress) and routine maintenance was required to keep the sites functional and secure. The Jewish Education Project took advantage of Unleashed Technologies’ innovative Support & Growth package model to receive continuous hardware & software monitoring, application support for security patches & upgrades, application development for custom work & integrations, and routine analytics & site performance evaluations.
Unleashed Technologies worked closely with The Jewish Education Project to move every web property into one server instead of having them in disparate locations. A new staging server was constructed, allowing existing web properties to be routinely backed up with test servers before being going live.
A few of The Jewish Education Project’s tailored solutions included:
A Customized Calendar: Allows parents to register their children for various summer activities within FindYourSummer.org
PHP Upgrades: Updates from PHP 5.6 to PHP 6.2 to optimize performance and enhance security
Smooth Security Updates: Application of updates on test servers before live web properties to ensure a smooth process
Google Analytics Tracking and Reporting: Tracks code allowing The Jewish Education Project to grow and expand their web properties to support remarketing efforts
A Central Repository with GitLab: A version control system where codes can be easily tracked and modified
Unleashed Technologies was able to streamline the management of ongoing updates, saving time and money for The Jewish Education Project. With the implementation of GitLab, modifications are now stored in a central repository allowing developers and non-developers to easily collaborate as they download new versions of the software, make changes, and upload revisions. The Jewish Education Project can now push modifications out more quickly than manual updates as their maintenance requirements became more autonomous.
As a result, The Jewish Education Project’s infrastructure is now up to par with modern security updates and server monitoring. Unleashed Technologies successfully organized, streamlined, and maintained the set-up for The Jewish Education Project’s web properties and continues to offer support and maintenance solutions for The Jewish Education Project to keep its sites evolving.
The work Unleashed Technologies does for us is excellent. I find their willingness to offer support and maintenance work for sites they didn't originally build to be a unique aspect of their company.
