The WYSIWYG module for Drupal is extremely useful in terms of providing a great plugin for many different WYSIWYG editors. It even allows you to select the different WYSIWYG buttons that will be available for different input formats. However, this functionality has a downside: It places all of the buttons in one long, unorganized line if you place them in with the Drupal interface.

I'm pleased to introduce Unleashed Technologies' first open-source project, "maxchars"!  maxchars is a jQuery plugin for easily adding and enforcing character limits on input elements with a friendly UI.  It works similar to Twitter, where users are presented with a helpful message stating the number of remaining characters or notifying them if they've exceeded the limit.  Similar plugins already exist, but we wanted to design something far simpler and easy to integrate.

I've been working on a project last week that involves creating a custom plugin for FCKEditor. I needed a way to inject custom code into the HTML output (custom Magento templating stuff, actually). I wanted the code to be hidden from the user but easily managed by the user through a dialog box. This way, the user can easily change this without worrying about the underlying code (or FCKEditor corrupting it).
