Cloud Computing

Cloud Foundry & NoOps

If you have not already heard about Cloud Foundry, it is a recently hot and upcoming Open Platform as a Service project that allows for easy application deployment and scaling. The project is sponsored by VMware and has a hosted solution, which is currently in beta testing, found at cloudfoundry.com. Thanks to AppFog, PHP support was recently added to Cloud Foundry. With this additional support, Cloud Foundry is truly becoming a well rounded Platform which can support a NoOps approach to application deployment.

Tech in the Sky

The benefits of cloud computing are too great to overlook. Especially when it comes to having a business with multiple sites, storing and sharing data can become a very cumbersome without the aid of cloud computing. Having data at a facility designed from the ground up for redundancy minimizes the risk of data loss, while also providing the flexibility to be available from virtually anywhere on the internet. Additionally, issues such as throughput to and from the data are gone with having hosting done at a datacenter. While any random Joe can host a server to store data at an office, a cloud solution at a datacenter could have dedicated gigabit circuits, redundant power, and state-of-the-art cooling systems so that the hardware would have no reason to falter.

Google Chrome was officially revealed at a news conference on November 19, 2009. Unlike Windows and other modern operating systems, Chrome OS has only one application - the web browser. There is no word processor or email programs - all applications are web-based, running and saving your data in the "cloud".
